This book is not for everyone. Get-go, you must be a Pat Conroy fan. Second, you should have read well-nigh or all of his books but well-nigh especially "Prince of Tides" and "The Neat Santini."

This is a must-read for Pat Conroy fans.

I might have to see if I can track downwards any copies of the audios of this collection, simply to hear Conroy (and his siblings) once again. He was and then funny to listen to. I wish I had exist able to attend some of these events, though at least I did become to hear Conroy speak on the University of Southward Carolina campus once, as well as got to run into him. Squeamish collection of photos, as well. I still look with apprehension for some other book by him, however knowing it volition not be coming. And so for at present I snatch upwardly these types of b I might have to see if I tin track downwardly whatsoever copies of the audios of this collection, just to hear Conroy (and his siblings) once more. He was so funny to listen to. I wish I had be able to nourish some of these events, though at least I did become to hear Conroy speak on the Academy of South Carolina campus once, also as got to see him. Nice collection of photos, also. I yet look with anticipation for some other book by him, yet knowing information technology will not exist coming. This book seemed like several town hall meetings where the Conroys talk about how some of them overcome an abusive childhood. Their father was a strict military machine man who wanted to control everyone in the family and just did that by using his fists on all of them including his married woman.

This is for the Pat Conroy diehards who want to know more than nearly his (and his siblings') tough babyhood. What struck me is how much they all use humor to deflect emotional turmoil and how their love for each other continues to salve them.

A delightful little gem for diehard Conroy fans. I would not recommend this unless you have read almost or all of Pat Conroy'southward other books-especially the "Santini" books.

Pat Conroy was my favorite contemporary novelist. I've been bummed by his recent death but found much enjoyment hither through a series of interviews of him and his siblings. The story of their family's dysfunction has been become infamous through Conroy'due south books and the movies based on them. The first moving-picture show was "The Great Santini" and it was Robert Duvall'due south start starring office. However ane of the brothers said that Duvall reminded him more of Bambi than their father! The perseverance and humor of Pat Conroy was my favorite gimmicky novelist. I've been bummed past his recent decease but plant much enjoyment here through a serial of interviews of him and his siblings. The story of their family unit's dysfunction has been become infamous through Conroy's books and the movies based on them. Being a large fan of Pat Conroy'southward books, I enjoyed reading the interviews that Walter Edgar had with Pat and one of his sisters and three of his brothers. Missing was his one sis, Carol, who was estranged with Pat the last few years of his life, and his brother who passed away several years ago. The Conroy'due south spoke openly of the difficulty of their childhood and the ways that Pat's piece of work was an authentic delineation of their struggles.
For me this was an interesting read. I will miss Pat Conroy and Being a large fan of Pat Conroy's books, I enjoyed reading the interviews that Walter Edgar had with Pat and one of his sisters and three of his brothers. Missing was his one sister, Carol, who was estranged with Pat the last few years of his life, and his brother who passed away several years ago. The Conroy's spoke openly of the difficulty of their childhood and the means that Pat'due south work was an accurate depiction of their struggles.

This volume contained several conversations with Pat Conroy and his brothers and sister. I found the interviews very interesting because I've read all of Pat'southward books several times and his family discussed his books and how close they were to their reality growing upwards. It was very interesting to compare their memories of growing up to the stories in Pat's books. Despite a very tough upbringing, its very evident that they love each other deeply. Great volume for Pat Conroy fans. This book contained several conversations with Pat Conroy and his brothers and sister. I found the interviews very interesting because I've read all of Pat'southward books several times and his family unit discussed his books and how close they were to their reality growing upwards. It was very interesting to compare their memories of growing up to the stories in Pat's books. Despite a very tough upbringing, its very evident that they love each other deeply. I enjoyed this book following the completion of my fourth Pat Conroy novel Loved hearing about what his part was to his brothers and sisters for his books and what impact his books had on them. Rather rouneded out the story My favorite writer. There are a few of his books for me to read. Glory! Glory!

I mean, it'southward just a record of their chat, but I've been listening to podcasts all calendar week, old interviews with Pat Conroy on NPR, and I love his vocalism and his stories and fifty-fifty though this doesn't really give me anything new it is even so wonderful. Transcripts of contempo(ish) interviews with Pat Conroy and his siblings (minus Carol, of grade). I was delighted to win this book through the GoodReads competition which was provided by the Academy of S Carolina Press!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading the interviews. At times I felt that I was in the room with them. It is fun to become back and read some of the quips and stories once more and again.

I of my favorite authors. However, the interviews were not that interesting. No new insights.

Dr. Walter B. Edgar was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1943. He received his undergraduate education from Davidson College in 1965 and his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the Academy of South Carolina in 1967 and 1969, respectively. Dr. Edgar served in the U.South. Army from 1969-71, including a year as an counselor in Vietnam. He has been a professor of history at the Academy of S Carolina since i Dr. Walter B. Edgar was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1943. He received his undergraduate teaching from Davidson College in 1965 and his Thou.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Due south Carolina in 1967 and 1969, respectively. Dr. Edgar served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71, including a twelvemonth as an advisor in Vietnam. He has been a professor of history at the Academy of South Carolina since 1972, has served every bit graduate director of the Section of History, and has directed many graduate students in their studies for the M.A. and the Ph.D. Dr. Edgar was the founder and outset director of the Applied History Program (now the Public History Program), offering graduate training in celebrated preservation, museum studies, and archival theory. He has also been the manager of the Institute of Southern Studies since 1990, and has been the Claude Henry Neuffer Professor of Southern Studies since 1995.

Primary amongst Dr. Edgar's many publications is his acclaimed South Carolina: A History, the starting time comprehensive history of the state published in the last fifty years, described as "a bold and sweeping reassessment and the history of South Carolina for this generation." He is also the editor of several books, such as A Southern Renascence Human: Views of Robert Penn Warren and South Carolina: The WPA Guide to the Palmetto Country. Dr. Edgar'due south almost recent major work was a multi-year project planning, supervising, and editing the South Carolina Encyclopedia, with articles by almost 600 contributors, published by the Academy of S Carolina Press in 2006. An enthusiastic interpreter of Southward Carolina and Southern history, culture, and life, he does so in a public forum in his weekly radio series on South Carolina ETV Radio: Walter Edgar'southward Journal, and every bit a frequent speaker to many historical, civic, and other organizations in South Carolina, across the United States, and away.
